Book UsThe Westside CIRCUS Troupe offers opportunities for our talented artists to perform and to develop their skills. We often perform at Festivals, open days and other special events. We create dynamic performances and interactive workshops that will suit your event and budget. These can be drawn from our existing repertoire or devised especially to meet your needs.
Established in 2013, the Westside CIRCUS Troupe is an initiative that brings together a mix of professional performers, emerging artists and youth participants to collaborate on the creation of dynamic performances. The troupe currently has many shows in repertoire, and has appeared at significant artistic and community events, including the Coburg Carnivale, The Arty Farty Festival, The Ride of the Valkyries Parade at Federation Square and a special Pyjama Party roving event for Sleep Out at the G. In 2014 the Troupe was invited to perform at the National Youth Circus Festival in Bathurst, Catapult, and continues to be in high demand.
- Participation in the Troupe is open to participants from any and all of our workshops, reflecting our Access and Inclusion policy. To have an expression of interest considered, participants are required each term to attend one of our Advanced or Senior Classes, have a suitable level of skill in an individual area or apparatus, be a team player and attend weekly Troupe rehearsal times (this is open to all troupe members for FREE!) and when we have upcoming performances, attend rehearsals if they are in the performance.

Our shows range from theatrical devised pieces to roving, ensemble work. We generate courageous and engaging shows by encouraging our young performers to express themselves creatively and respond imaginatively to challenges. Our devised shows have included appearances at the Coburg Carnivale, where we interacted with Street Furniture acrobatically and comically, The Arty Farty Festival where we participated in a parade themed on “the Land of the Giants”, The Ride of the Valkyries Parade at Federation Square, where we performed as Daemons from Hell, and a special Pyjama Party roving event for Sleep Out at the G.
Travelling Light is a versatile street performance that encompasses strong ensemble work, roving sequences, group acrobatics, gymnastics, and high level circus skills such as Toss the Girl, club passing and manipulation, hat juggling and adagio. The sophisticated design by Emily Barrie mixes the dusty decadence of being lost at hanging rock with the eccentric styling of steam-punk gives substance and weight to the theme ‘arrival – new lands, new lives’
Beach Bodies evokes the long hot days of summer, the glint of sunshine on the bay and the feel of sand between your toes. This playful romp celebrates the fun of the Australian beach lifestyle through amazing displays of skill with folding chairs, beach umbrellas, eskies and towels. Tap your feet to the sounds of summer and swing your hips to the rhythm of the waves.
The Westside Circus team did a fantastic job bringing the Docklands to life for two nights in July to complement the City of Melbourne Fireworks program. It was a combination of high energy circus work, with touches of intrigue, fun and theatrics. We look forward to working with Westside Circus for future CoM events!Claire Gresty, City of Melbourne
Thank you Westside for your contribution to Sunday’s program. Westside added dynamism to the ‘festival feel’ for the day… hundreds of people gathered around in anticipation of the performances in the Great Hall and obviously enjoyed it.Dianne Hilyear, National Gallery of Victoria
